Try this software / driver package: http://www.fklt.com/download/Modem_Status_1.6.0.zip

It will give you a connection manager aswell.

It is for CDU650 and CDU680.

Works great with my CCU680, so it might do some magic for your CCU650 aswell.

This is unfortunately only working for me with an old Powerbook. There is no way I can get the dongle working on a MacBook Pro 17" or any other Intel based machine. Initially it might work, but than it stops and you will not get it going anymore. No problems with the successor 680 however. The fact that Cmotech does not reply to mails and doe snot provide a MAC driver says a lot about the company though. Koreans seem to hold their customers in low regard.

There is a guide on www.catcdma.com, but that page is unavailable, however the cached html version from google is here: http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:bBYszLrIhRMJ:www.catcdma.com/download/file/driver/CCU-680/CCU680_MANUAL_Thai.pdf

All the way at the bottom in mentioned html/pdf.

The instructions for CCU-680 does not seem to be as straighforward as the ones for CCU-650.

But an added advantage is that the driver is actually stored on a flash drive within the card, so the driver will always be with you.

A new drive will appear on your desktop after you insert the card into an available USB port, this drive contains both the driver and instructions on how to install.

The installation routine is more or less like this one:

http://answer4it.net/2008/04/22/cdma2000-evdo-rev-a-450mhz-norway-sweden-denmark-russia-d-50-or-cnu-680/

Also the username password provided for the ccu-680 by CAT telecom has a different username and password:

Input Telephone Number, Account Name, Password
- Telephone Number : #777
- Account Name : evdo@catevdo.com
- Password : cdmacat

I have successfully used the CCU-650 with a 13" white Macbook and a 20" aluminium iMac but have had no joy with a 15" Macbook Pro until I used a powered USB hub.

I think it has to do with the juice that the MBP sends to the ports, the CCU-650 seems to require more than can be delivered. I'll be buying a Y cable in the next few days to try again.

It might be a USB power issue.
Not entirely sure about this one, if you live close to any computer shops you might go there and ask them if they have a usb Y cable on hand.
The idea of such a cable is to take power from 2 USB ports and support one usb peripheral, such as the card you have.
The below picture shows such equipment, they will usually come with external hardrives.
Or can be bought separetely.

That is my first thought when you describe your problem, I am not sure what else it could be, but try to test one before you go ahead and buy one.

You might also want to try the procedure outlined here: http://answer4it.net/2008/03/07/ccu-650-macbook-macbook-pro-unexplainable-slow-connection-resolved/
Maybe the driver software is stuck in some state or similar like what happened to me.

You should also not dialup untill the lights stop blinking after you insert the CCU-650 into your macbook, if you do that i have noticed at least in my case that the CCU-650 will connect and disconnect over and over again

One way or another, my CCU-650 does not seem to work with a mac book pro 17". It is working fine with older powerbooks and the Franklin driver, it is working with the IMAC but not at all with mac book pro.
I can get it working once, it works for a few minutes and than there is no receiving activity anymore. After a few minutes it will than disconnect as the remote site does not respond. It drives me crazy because it is working on all of my other macs. Any idea here what the problem might be?
