CCU-650 product information page
Firstly insert your Cmotech CCU650 modem into an available USB slot.
Preferably the one on the right side, some have mentioned that their CCU650
did not get enough power and for that reason kept getting disconnected, this might have something to to with not all USB ports delivering enough power.
On my Macbook Pro Core Duo i have been connected for several days straight with this setup, with the modem connected to the slot on the right hand while facing your screen.
You need to enter System preferences in order to do this.
And then on To “Network”.
To add a new interface you need to press the small + sign in the bottom left
corner which you see in the below example picture.

You will now press create.
After you press create your connection will show up in the interface list on the left side.

Username and password configuration should look like the above picture.
You will need to input these data yourself.
In most CAT telecom offices they might also do all of this for you.
The asterisk hides the password, but it should be typed in as “catevdo” without the “”.

On the “Advanced tab” of the username/password configuration you will find the modem configuration.
The above picture shows what this should look like.

Pressing the connect button will now get you online, you will see a timer which shows your connection time in the top right corner, you can also connect or disconnect directly from that timer.
This concludes the setup procedure for Macbook or a Macbook Pro running Leopard and using the CCU650 Modem from CMotech.
Now it is time to see if there is any improvement from the Sierra Wireless 580 card which i had before.

One way or another, my CCU-650 does not seem to work with a mac book pro 17″. It is working fine with older powerbooks and the Franklin driver, it is working with the IMAC but not at all with mac book pro.
I can get it working once, it works for a few minutes and than there is no receiving activity anymore. After a few minutes it will than disconnect as the remote site does not respond. It drives me crazy because it is working on all of my other macs. Any idea here what the problem might be?
It might be a USB power issue.

Not entirely sure about this one, if you live close to any computer shops you might go there and ask them if they have a usb Y cable on hand.
The idea of such a cable is to take power from 2 USB ports and support one usb peripheral, such as the card you have.
The below picture shows such equipment, they will usually come with external hardrives.
Or can be bought separetely.
That is my first thought when you describe your problem, I am not sure what else it could be, but try to test one before you go ahead and buy one.
You might also want to try the procedure outlined here: http://answer4it.net/2008/03/07/ccu-650-macbook-macbook-pro-unexplainable-slow-connection-resolved/
Maybe the driver software is stuck in some state or similar like what happened to me.
You should also not dialup untill the lights stop blinking after you insert the CCU-650 into your macbook, if you do that i have noticed at least in my case that the CCU-650 will connect and disconnect over and over again
I have successfully used the CCU-650 with a 13″ white Macbook and a 20″ aluminium iMac but have had no joy with a 15″ Macbook Pro until I used a powered USB hub.
I think it has to do with the juice that the MBP sends to the ports, the CCU-650 seems to require more than can be delivered. I’ll be buying a Y cable in the next few days to try again.

Have anyone tried this guide on the new model CCU-680 Rev. A ?
Cheers
Rob
There is a guide on http://www.catcdma.com, but that page is unavailable, however the cached html version from google is here: http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:bBYszLrIhRMJ:www.catcdma.com/download/file/driver/CCU-680/CCU680_MANUAL_Thai.pdf
All the way at the bottom in mentioned html/pdf.
The instructions for CCU-680 does not seem to be as straighforward as the ones for CCU-650.
But an added advantage is that the driver is actually stored on a flash drive within the card, so the driver will always be with you.
A new drive will appear on your desktop after you insert the card into an available USB port, this drive contains both the driver and instructions on how to install.
The installation routine is more or less like this one:

Also the username password provided for the ccu-680 by CAT telecom has a different username and password:
Input Telephone Number, Account Name, Password
- Telephone Number : #777
- Account Name : evdo@catevdo.com
- Password : cdmacat
